Personal Learning

I have learned about the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA/FIPPA) which sets certain provisions related to student and privacy rights which are important aspects that need to be considered when working in the digital world. In today’s digital world, technology is an asset but how fairly we use it is what makes us more responsible. Training for the appropriate use of technology should also be given so that everybody is aware of its fair use. Students refer to the internet for information but at the same time, they should be responsible enough to be smart and be aware of certain potential risks and tricks that surface online. As a parent and teacher, I feel I am equally responsible to develop positive and safe behavior in my child so that they respect the privacy of others online. Proper training should be given to children to protect their accounts. Moreover, they should act responsibly in not spreading false rumors online or posting inappropriate content, respecting the ownership of others’ work. While giving the power to children to explore the digital world, as a teacher, I will make them aware of the potential risks that come with it.
