Personal Learning

I have learned that Inquiry-based learning is a student-centered approach that examines the previous knowledge of the students and based on it, they explore the issues and dive into explore further questions. This approach is helpful for students with different learning styles and helps students who require additional assistance. Students are responsible for their learning here as they explore the answers to the questions they identify during their journey. As a teacher, I can guide the students in their learning process as they will find the solutions to the problems. Taking an example from the lesson plan on ‘Global Warming’, their prior knowledge can be assessed through a quiz activity, discussion group, or showing images. While generating questions, they can take help from journals, and videos to explore more about the topic and generate meaningful questions. Students can research the topic and analyze the trends using graphs and charts. Feedback is an important element here as it will motivate the students in what went well and what needs more attention. In this approach, students are responsible for their learning, so it gives them a chance to collaborate with their peers to look for solutions and develop critical thinking skills. This approach provides hands-on learning experiences, and the information learned will retain in their minds for a longer period. This approach is the need of the hour in most of the schools in my country.
